The Mamanucas
The Mamanucas are a group of 20 volcanic islands scattered amongst exotic, clear, clean reefs that are home to pelagic and reef fish attracted by nutrients swept in by strong currents. They are located relatively close to the mainland and Nadi international airport, and are accessible by high-speed catamarans, helicopters and seaplanes making them just as easy to reach as the mainland resorts.
The Mamanucas is also home to world renowned dive sites such as The Big W frequented by a resident bronze whale shark and 70 metre drop-offs. Gotham City so named for its batfish and abundance of soft corals and schools of fish in the thousands. There are a number of different luxury resorts in the group, some of our favourites are Tokoriki Island - a private island catering to the honeymoon and romance market, Wadigi Island – An Island where you rent the entire island exclusively for yourself and your family. Matamanoa Island – a small and personal island stay with reasonable prices – this island is the closest resort to uninhabited Monuriki Island which was the setting for the Tom Hanks movie Castaway. Vomo Island is a volcanic island with a luxury resorts offering swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving and a 9-hole putt golf course. Malolo Island and Castaway Island are slightly larger resorts with plenty of choices of accommodation and activities for the family.
The Yasawas
The Yasawas are a paradise for not only cruisers, yachties and divers but also those who are looking for an exclusive retreat and total anonymity from the pressures of fame and fortune. Almost every Yasawa Island has its own fabulous beach especially around Blue Lagoon (the site of the filming of ‘The Blue Lagoon’ film starring Brooke Shields) between Tavewa and Nanuya Lailai which can be visited on a day trip from most resorts. The larger islands of the group are Waya Island, the highest in the group, Tavewa Island, renowned for its natural beauty, Turtle Island, an exotic and exclusive recluse for the rich and famous, Sawa-i-Lau Island with its limestone cave, Nanuya Levu, home of yet another exclusive honeymoon resort, Naviti Island the largest of the Yasawas and Viwa, the most remote of the sister islands
