Getting Married in the South Pacific

If you have ever dreamed of getting married on a white sandy beach or on a lush tropical island then the South Pacific may be the place for you. Below are some of our favorites, but don’t hesitate to contact us for more ideas.

FIJI

With over 330 sunny, unspoiled islands to choose from and plenty of exclusive resorts that offer complete wedding packages, your dream of a romantic South Sea island betrothal can be yours. Here are just two of many options.

navigateoceaniaroyaldavuiislandRoyal Davui

One of Fiji’s island retreats and also one of the most romantic resorts in the South Pacific, Royal Davui is the perfect setting for both a wedding and honeymoon. The resort’s wedding packages combine the experience of a traditional Fijian wedding conducted on the beach either by a Fijian Methodist Minister or local Justice of the Peace (the choice is yours). With a full programme of snorkeling, diving, deep sea fishing or sailing, the Royal Davui is all about doing as much or as little as you like.

From £4763 per couple, including 5 nights’ (1 free night) accommodation with all meals and transfers from Nadi.

The package includes the marriage license, the services of the Minister or JP, a church donation, a choir, floral decorations, attendants (including a flower girl in traditional Fijian dress), a one hour massage for both the bride and groom and a champagne dinner.

lomalagi aerialYasawa Island

Just 22kms long and less than 1km wide, Yasawa offers no more than 32 guests splendid isolation in one of the most unspoilt reaches of the Fijian archipelago. With just 16 thatched bures, each with a discreet open air shower, its own thatched beach hut, a wide sundeck and a hammock strung between the palms, the resort is incredibly romantic, with plenty of solitude combined with absolute luxury.

From £5495 per couple including four nights’ accommodation and all meals

The wedding includes transfers to the marriage registry, the marriage license, services of a Minister, Fijian choir, floral decorations, attendants and all the necessary arrangements, plus champagne breakfast the next morning and choice of a one hour massage or facial per person.

Getting Married in Fiji: The essential details

Marriage under Fijian law involves two parts: The registration of the intent to marry with the Registry Office in Sigatoka (open weekdays with an appointment arranged by the resort), with essential documents including birth certificates, and the actual ceremony. Sigatoka is on the Coral Coast, you can arrange to drive there before heading over to your island resort or perhaps spend a few nights on the coast first.

THE COOK ISLANDS

The Cooks are made up of fifteen beautiful, unspoilt islands in the Pacific, surrounded by palm fringed beaches with pristine white sands spread over a million square miles of ocean.

Cook Island Weddings – The essential details

The Cook Islands have a very relaxed policy that allows international citizens to marry legally.  After applying for the wedding license on any weekday, the couple must then reside in the Cook Islands for a further three full days.  They must also produce their birth certificate and other relevant documents.

FRENCH POLYNESIA

In accordance with the national civil code, one month of prior residency in French Polynesia is required, so we have not included options here - but if you are interested please talk to one of our consultants.

Note: All wedding essential details are applicable for UK nationals; other nationalities may require alternative documentation or additional fees.
