My passion for travel began at an early age when I took my first flight to Australia before my first birthday. My love for the country must have been truly cemented because it was the first of many regular trips over subsequent years. After leaving school, for example, I spent a year backpacking around Australia and New Zealand as well as USA.
Annette Morrissey, our Sales & Operations Director, has worked in the industry for the last 14 years starting her career with Jerry as part of the Bridge The World sales team. Over the last 20 years or so, she has experienced an amazing diversity of holidays in Australia, South East Asia, the South Pacific, USA and Canada. She has also lived in New Zealand and has travelled extensively throughout the country.
Over the years I travelled in many parts of the globe, including northern India, Thailand, Hong Kong, Bali , USA, Canada, Malaysia, Indonesia, Burma (as was then) China, Fiji and Sydney. After spending 4 months in this wonderful city, I travelled overland to Melbourne and along the Great Ocean Road to Adelaide, then north to Uluru and Alice Springs, across to Cairns and back to Darwin. After further travels around South East Asia, I returned to Sydney for another four months before returning to the UK via Hawaii and mainland USA.
For 17 years, David was the Chief Travel Correspondent on The Sunday Times, and on three occasions was voted Travel Writer of the Year.
As a result of his first hand experiences, including extensive travel throughout North America, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, he is in a unique position to know what it takes to create the perfect holiday experience - and, in particular, what one should expect from a truly top tour operator
With nothing more than a few family trips to Europe for experience, after university I decided to drastically broaden my horizons with an 18 month trip around the world which included spending a year living and working in Australia. My journey also took me through South East Asia, I spent some time in New Zealand, and finally stopped over in the U.S. en route back to the U.K. With my new-found passion for travel and a strong desire to get away again as quickly as possible, it made perfect sense to seek a job in the travel industry.
My initial passion for travel was heavily influenced by my parents, who took me overseas from a young age – our family travelled to the US, Canada and Australia, and experienced a Kenyan safari.
As part of my studies, I spent 3 months participating in a marine conservation project in Fiji, where I learnt to dive. After completing my degree, I travelled extensively through South America, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Asia and the Caribbean. Whilst away, I also became a PADI Dive Instructor.
My first experience of long haul travel came at the age of 19 when as a student I decided to head off to India for the 6 week summer break. Given the complete culture shock involved with a trip to this part of the world this proved to be an experience I was woefully unprepared for but it gave me one lasting thing, a passion for travel.
My first taste of Australia came on a student exchange when I was 20. After spending three months in Melbourne and travelling up the East Coast I was hooked and I spent a further year down under after I completed my studies. During that year I worked in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth and visited every state, with Tasmania and the West Coast particular highlights (apart from when our beloved car broke down half way between Perth and Darwin).
My travel career started at Bridge the World back in 1999 but my love of travelling began long before that. At the age of 8, I thought my holiday to Florida and, more importantly, Disney World was the best adventure possible. After many years travelling around the globe, I've realised that there were even more adventures in store for me.
Keep up to date with our latest news and what's going on in the world of travel.
