Jewellery making in Mozambique
Bridge and Wickers have come up with the perfect trip for jewellery lovers or anyone looking for a creative, out-of-the-ordinary holiday. Ibo Island in Northern Mozambique has long been famous for its silversmiths who craft intricate silver jewellery using traditional Arab techniques and tools. Now you have a chance to get stuck in and learn how to make it yourself with our Ibo Island Jewellery experience.
You will receive one-on-one tuition from a expert silversmith (including a translator where necessary) and learn how to shape the silver through a process of melting and annealing to handcraft your own bracelets and necklaces.
In addition to jewellery making, many other activities are included in the cost of your stay. Explore the historic Portuguese fort and trading post (nominated as a World Heritage Site), take a boat trip to deserted sandbar to swim and snorkel and head out on a guided kayaking trip round the island. You will spend five nights at the gorgeous Ibo Island Lodge, with luxury suites built in restored waterfront mansions and excellent food (especially the locally caught seafood and fresh fruit sorbets). You will even get a complimentary romantic dinner on the beach with a bottle of wine thrown in.
The five-night Ibo jewellery experience costs from just £780 per person, including five nights at Ibo Island Lodge, all meals, activities and return light aircraft transfers from Pemba Airport.
