Nelson is located at the top of the South Island, nestled in the northwest corner in a landscape of wide plains, rivers, golden sandy beaches, hills and mountains. It is the country’s eighth largest wine region and home to Abel Tasman National Park. There are also more working artists in the area than any other region. You could easily spend a few days visiting the various art galleries and craft shops, enjoying long lazy lunches at one of the wineries and walking on the beaches.
Take a trip into the Abel Tasman National Park with its long golden beaches and nature walks. There are water taxis cruising back and forth through the park so it is very easy to get there. We can arrange a number of different options for you to experience the park, from guided walking tours or kayak trips to sailing trips by catamaran. If you are not so keen on the water and prefer a loftier perspective you could consider taking a helicopter flight over the park. For keen walkers there are longer overnight walking and kayaking options.
If you are keen to travel further afield you can head west to Golden Bay on a day trip or overnight stay. From there you can access the northern part of the Abel Tasman or take a tour to Farewell Spit, a bird sanctuary where 90 species of birds converge on the sand flats at low tide.
