The Ghan - Rail from Darwin - Alice Springs - Adelaide and vv.
Overview
It’s an odd name for a train but in Australian history it is a living legend, one that soared to new prominence with the extension of the journey to Darwin. Boarding The Ghan in Adelaide or Darwin, you’ll experience one of the most fascinating of the world’s great train journeys. Marvel at the spectacular Australian landscapes from fertile countryside surrounding Adelaide to the rusty hues of the Red Centre, on to the tropical splendour of the Top End. Enjoy two nights aboard this great train in either direction through the heart of the continent. You might want to consider taking one of the optional tours offered to passengers in either Alice Springs (ranging from a visit to the flora and fauna on show in the Desert Park to a cultural tour of Aboriginal Sacred Sites, plus a more general tour of such Alice highlights as the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the Telegraph Station), or Katherine (where you can explore its famous gorge by boat, canoe or helicopter).
