The Fall Colours of Nova Scotia - Eastern Tour
Overview
This seven night itinerary has its sights firmly set on the superbly scenic Cape Breton island, a blend of wild coastline and wooded highlands wearing full autumn colours laced with traditional Celtic culture.
Days 1 and 2 - Halifax
After a swift passage through award-winning airport and a 30 minute transfer you’ll be checking into your Halifax downtown historic townhouse hotel, the Halliburton. Your two night stay allows for a full day to explore the Halifax waterfront boardwalk, take a sail around the world’s second largest natural harbour on a tall ship, visit the Maritime museum, Pier 21 where a million immigrants were processed and the old citadel.
Day 3 - Wallace
From Halifax you’d drive north right across the Nova Scotian peninsula to Wallace on the shore of beautiful Wallace Bay, a place of quiet tidal beauty and amazing birdlife. Your night will be spent at the nearby Amhurst Shore Country Inn.
Day 4 - The Cabot Trail
After following the coast road along the beach-rich Northumberland Strait, famous for its beaches and the ‘warmest waters north of the Carolinas’, you might need to fast track along the highway, crossing the causeway to Cape Breton island and continuing up the western shoreline road along the so called Ceilidh Trail, reflecting the area’s strong Scottish roots. Stop at Judique (where you should plan on a stop at the Celtic Music Centre) before checking into the Glenora Inn and Distillery at Mabou.
Days 5 and 6 - Ingonish Beach
Cape Breton scenery is superb, especially when the Fall colours are at their prime. It offers 1000 kms of magnificent seascapes, plus a further 250 kms of lakeshore around the Bras d’Or Lake. The Cape is also home to Nova Scotia’s other national park, Cape Breton Highlands, with great hiking trails topped by the Skyline Trail where you can spot moose, maybe whales and bald eagles too.
You’ll spend two nights at the Keltic Lodge, a solid white hotel, cut off from the rest of the world in Ingonish. Overlooking the water, it has the feel of a Scottish lodge on a loch.
Day 7 - Liscomb Mills
Continuing south along the Cabot Trail you’ll cross back to the ‘mainland,’ with maybe a stop at Sherbrooke Village, living history museum, just before you reach the south coast and Liscomb Lodge, your last night’s resort set on the banks of a river and offering a full range of activities, from canoeing to tennis.
This itinerary can also be combined with The Western Colours of Nova Scotia for a full 2 week holiday. Ask your consultant for more details.
