Driving Down Under is little different from driving at home – but without the traffic. Driving is on the left, road signs are in English and everything will seem comfortably familiar as well as exotically different. You own car will free you from the constraints of transport tickets and timetables – although don’t underestimate distances.
Campers
Nothing promises the same sense of freedom as travel in your own campervan. Not only can you plan your journey without having to dovetail a series of hotels into your itinerary but you are free to roam more or less wherever your wheels can take you. In New Zealand you can spend the night more or less where you fancy while in Australia there are scores of sites in some of the most stunning remarkable locations, including several in national parks.
Motorbikes
For romance it’s hard to beat the pleasures of two wheels. You are in intimate contact with the world you are touring, an intrinsic part of the passing scene, not an audience peering through a windscreen at the passing scenery.
