There are plenty of options for seeing Canada whether it’s a tailor-made self drive, motorhome rental, an escorted tour or a selection of private tours. Also with so much of Canada’s most enticing regions devoted to water (waterways, fjords, channels between islands and lakes), it’s hardly surprising that both floatplanes and ferries play an integral role in travel, especially in the west. We can help you to put together your own personalised tour of Canada utilising any of these means of transportation.
Floatplanes
Floatplanes are fast and convenient but incredibly scenic and fun at the same time. You can take a tour, hopping between destinations by plane, fly to a remote restaurant for a special occasion or transfer between waterside lodges.
Specific examples include hopping from downtown Vancouver to Victoria, capital of Vancouver Island, even to Whistler and the Okanagan Valley. From Vancouver Harbour you can even fly with the postie to the quaint villages of the Gulf Islands, a route that differs depending on what needs to be delivered and to whom! In the east there are floatplanes to the remote resorts in the Muskokas.
Or there are pure scenic jaunts to, for example, the hanging glaciers and knife-edged ridges of Mount Mamquam, landing on a ‘secret’ alpine lake where the air is fresh and the water is crystal clear.
Ferries
Ferries are another essential part of the experience of getting around the west coast and we can easily build these rewarding journeys into our itineraries. Popular short hops include Vancouver to Victoria or along the Sunshine Coast.
One of the most famous is the service from Port Hardy in the north of Vancouver Island to Prince Rupert in the north of British Columbia, sailing through the beautiful channels of the Inside Passage.
Since both northbound and southbound journeys depart early in the morning and arrive late in the evening we recommend booking a cabin where you can rest in privacy.
Our consultants can tailor an itinerary incorporating travel on any of the ferries or journeys by seaplane.
Canada is a beautiful country with magnificent scenery. Hiring a car gives you the opportunities to stop, explore and take in the breathtaking countryside.
Nothing promises the same sense of freedom as travel in your own motorhome. Not only can you plan your journey without having to dovetail a series of hotels into your itinerary but you are free to roam more or less wherever your wheels can take you.
In our view, travelling by train through the awe-inspiring vastness is a richly rewarding experience and takes the stress out of travel as you sit back and watch the world go by. ‘The Canadian’ is the train linking the east coast with the west by a 4424 km, three days' and three nights' track of iron.
