All Bridge & Wickers holidays are tailor-made and no two are the same. We have made some accommodation suggestions, however we will tailor your quote to your preferred standard and style of accommodation.
Western Canada is a king size holiday playground for families. The sheer scale of the scenery will score high on the ‘wow’ index, as will the likely sightings of wildlife, whales and bears included. There’s also an abundance of activities to thrill all ages, from white water rafting to kayaking, zip wiring to mountain biking, mostly organised from the resorts (where two bedroom apartments, cabins or suites are generally available).
Days 1 and 2 VANCOUVER
You’ll have plenty of time to explore this most perfectly located of all Canada’s cities. Lying between the mountains and the sea, and boasting that you could go boating in the morning and be skiing the same afternoon, Vancouver offers a broad spectrum of pleasures which are ideal for all the family, from cycling around the 1000 acre Stanley Park to taking a ride on the Aquabus to the arty alternative Granville Island and its dedicated Kids Market, from open bus tours to the Aquarium, Science World, Treetops Adventure or Water Park.
Your nights will be spent in a two bedroom suite at the Carmana Plaza.
Days 3, 4 and 5 TOFINO
Pick up a car and take the ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Nainamo on Vancouver Island and drive from the east to the rugged west coast and the town of Tofino. Apart from enjoying the stunning location you’ll find plenty of rewarding activities to fill your time, including surfing, sea kayaking, whale watching and bear spotting. Your accommodation will be in a 1 bedroom beachfront suite (which sleeps four) at Pacific Sands Beach Resort.
Days 6 and 7 WHISTLER
Drive back across Vancouver Island, ferry back to Horsehoe Bay and then up the Sea to Sky highway to Whistler. The town, best known as a ski resort, is also a hive of activityin summer with more than enough to fill a week, let alone a couple of days. Specific suggestions include: Taking an ATV along wide mountain trails to experience beautiful wilderness terrain; mountain biking and canoeing (or kayaking); a helicopter flight and a bird’s eye view of Whistler Resort, Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains; and the TreeTrek Ecotour which follows trails and aerial stairways up to a multiple suspension bridge above the raging waters of Fitzsimmons Creek. Stay 2 nights in a 2 bedroom suite at the 4 star all suite hotel Pan Pacific Village Resort in the heart of Whistler.
Days 8, 9 and 10 TYAX RESORT
Drive into the interior of BC and spend 3 nights in a 2 bedroom chalet at the ranch style lakeside Tyax Resort in the Southern Chilcotin Mountains. Recently renovated, it’s best known for horseback riding but also has plenty of mountain and water based activities.
As an alternative (or as well!) you might like to experience staying in a houseboat on the Shuswap, a region of interconnecting lakes that combine to offer some 250 miles of shoreline scattered with a number of provincial parks. The only aspect that isn’t rugged will be your houseboat which comes with a hot tub and fireplace!
Day 11 CLEARWATER, WELLS GRAY PROVINCIAL PARK
On your way to Jasper we recommend spending a night in this 5000 sq kms protected wilderness which is not only noted for its mountain scenery, with craggy peaks, ice fields, canyons and waterfalls, but glorious show of wildflowers. Your night in the wilds will be spent in a 2 bedroom log cabin at Alpine Meadows Resort.
Days 12, 13 and 14 JASPER
Jasper, with its peaceful, small town atmosphere, is located deep in the Alberta Rockies with mountain peaks in every direction. During your stay we would recommend a tour that takes in the Patricia and Pyramid Lakes, the Maligne Valley (home to osprey, eagles, big horn sheep, mountain goats, moose, elk, deer and bears) and the 165 foot deep Maligne Canyon where the river thunders through in a series of waterfalls. From the canyon you would continue to Medicine Lake and the spectacular Maligne Lake.
On your free day we can arrange all sorts of activities. You’ll stay in a family cabin at Alpine Village.
Days 15 and 16 BANFF
Jasper is the starting point for one of the most scenically spectacular drives in the world, the Icefields Parkway, which links the town with Lake Louise and Banff, with the iconic Columbia Icefield, the Athabasca glacier and Sunwapta Falls along the way.
The world famous resort town of Banff, in the centre of Banff National Park, is hemmed by 25 peaks that rise over 3000m, many magically reflected in the turquoise waters of the park’s many lakes. The town offers visitors a full range of facilities, including the therapeutic hot springs that inspired the founding of the park, and is an excellent base for exploring the surrounding country. As a prime hub for several outdoor activities, families will be spoilt for choice. You’ll stay in a 2 bedroom suite in the Fox Hotel.
