Gaspe

The Gaspe Peninsula (Gaspesie), is located on the eastern tip of the province of Quebec, north of New Brunswick. It is mostly a coastal region being surrounded by the St. Lawrence estuary and gulf as well as by the Bay of Chaleur. The Gaspe Peninsula is 560 km from Montreal and 340 km from Quebec City by road.
The coast region is located on the northwest side of the peninsula and is often referred to as the entrance of the Gaspesie region since it is the actual starting point for visitors coming from Montreal or Quebec City. It spreads along the St. Lawrence estuary and includes charming areas such as Mitis or Matanie. Leave Hwy 132 to get to various charming municipalities filled with historical houses.

The Upper gaspe covers the central north where you will find many salmon rivers including the Cap-Chat, Sainte-Anne and Madeleine, the Parc de la Gaspesie (provincial park), the Chic-Chocs mountains (highest peaks in southern Quebec and home of Chic Choc Mountain Lodge), a magnificent road surrounded by deep blue sea and steep mountains as well as many hiking trails.

The southern region from Perce certainly is different with its flat land, numerous farms and harbors. The traveler will also find interesting sights such as the harbor in Sainte-Therese-de-Gaspe, the large river passing through Grande-Riviere, the Pabos bay and the unique beaches of Newport.

The Bay of Chaleur region is relatively mountainous and covers the estuary of the Ristigouche River. The Bay of Chaleur offers a lot of interesting sightseeing such as Pointe-a-la-Croix, the doorway to New Brunswick, Indian reserve of Listuguj, Miguasha Park, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, seaside resort of Carleton including many attractions (lagoon, mountains, hiking paths leading to Maria, beach, restaurants, bars, etc.).

Traveling south, you will discover the charming agricultural village of Sainte-Therese-de-Merici, the majestic church of Saint-Moïse, beautiful Val-Brillant and its gothic style church located on the west shore of Matapedia Lake, the city of Amqui and the bridge of Anse-Saint-Jean. Enjoy winter fun in Sainte-Irene, the incredible Philomene Fall in Saint-Alexandre-des-Lacs, Causapscal and its park at the meeting point of Causapscal and Matapedia rivers and the renowned covered bridge of Routhierville.
