14 Day Pacific Coast Self Drive

14 Day Pacific Coast Self Drive

Itinerary Information

If there’s a theme to this particular itinerary it’s the sea and some of the most remarkable coastal scenery on the planet, coupled with lots of marine life and an abundance of seabirds, which you’ll experience both on scenic drives and from the deck of a ferry.

daisiesDay 1, 2 and 3 – VANCOUVER
There’s so much to see and do in this spectacularly located city, both within and just beyond the urban boundaries, that we’ve allowed three nights, with accommodation at the Fairmont Pacific Rim.

bc-parliament-buildings-and-gardens-in-victoriaDays 4 and 5 VICTORIA
Located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, Victoria is British Columbia’s capital city, known for its temperate climate, stunning coastal setting and interesting visitor attractions including Butchart Gardens, a 130 acre country estate, the Royal British Columbia Museum and whale watching - there’s an abundance of Orcas, Minke whales, Grey whales, plus porpoises and harbour seals.
Spend 2 nights at the Inn at Laurel Point, spectacularly sited on a peninsula jutting into Victoria’s Inner Harbour.

tofinoDays 6 and 7 UCLUELET
Pronounced ‘Yew-Kloo-Let’, but locally just known as ‘Ukee’, the word in Aboriginal Nuu-chah-nulth means ‘safe harbour’. You’ll be impressed by how this small, laid back, friendly village can offer so many big experiences, including whale, bird and bear watching, fishing, surfing, hiking, biking, ocean kayaking, zip lining and sunset cruising. Ucluelet shares the scenic Ucluth Peninsula on the west coast of Vancouver Island with the larger – and easily visited – resort of Tofino.
You’ll spend two nights at the Blackrock Oceanfront resort located on a dramatic rock promontory overlooking the roaring Pacific surf with a choice of studio, one and two bedroom suites each with a private balcony and kitchen facilities.

Days 8 and 9 QUADRA ISLAND1--april-point-resort---spaYou’ll drive to the sheltered east coast for two nights at the April Point Resort. Facing the Inside Passage, there’s a wide range of activities on offer, an Aveda spa and a choice of room types. There’s no danger of boredom. The resort can arrange salmon fishing, whale watching, sunset cruises, trips across the water to its sister hotel Painter’s Lodge, kayaking, golf and wildlife tours.

West Coast WildernessDays 10 and 11 THE SUNSHINE COAST
From Vancouver all the way up to the Alaskan border, British Columbia’s coastline tots up to more than 17,000 miles if you count all the ins and outs. Yet there’s only one single road, the 100 or so mile highway of the Sunshine Coast. Barely known to Canadians let alone UK visitors, it is an amazing, knee trembling marriage of mountain and maritime scenery, its deeply indented fjord coastline dramatically sculpted by Ice Age glaciers.
You’ll stay for two nights at Rockwater Secret Cove, in the romantic ‘tenthouses’ modelled on the luxury tents found in some of the top game lodges in Africa.

Days 12 and 13 WHISTLERb20110901-whistler-village-1
During the winter months, Whistler becomes an alpine skiers’ paradise. However, Whistler also flourishes during the warm summer months making it a natural year-round playground. With its cool mountain air, crystal clear lakes and lush emerald forests, you’ll never run out of things to do. Specific suggestions include taking a 4WD along wide mountain trails, mountain biking and canoeing, horseback riding, helicopter flights, or take a ‘TreeTrek Ecotour’ which follows trails and aerial stairways up to multiple suspension bridges above the raging waters of Fitzsimmons Creek. Accommodation is at the Nita Lake Lodge where each room has a balcony with stunning mountain or lake views and a kitchenette.
