Northern BC is an untouched wilderness that covers nearly half the province north of Prince George. Except for the plains and foothills of the Peace River region in the northeast corner, the region is impressively mountainous and teeming with wildlife. From the mystical, storm-swept Queen Charlotte Islands to the Rocky Mountain foothills, this is a land where man's biggest accomplishments seem so trivial compared with those of nature. Much of the region is preserved and protected by a system of provincial parks.

Located right in the heart of the region is Prince George offering visitors an exciting assortment of historical, natural, and cultural attractions. With more than 120 parks to explore in the city, visitors will have no shortage of opportunities to go walking, bird watching, and cycling. Forests of the World Park, for example, offers a complete forest getaway, with a lake and mountain landscape, yet only a few minutes' drive from downtown.

For centuries the First Nations people have called British Columbia their home and today their traditions, arts and crafts are internationally acclaimed. Communities such as Prince Rupert and the Queen Charlotte Islands (Haida Gwaii) offer a glimpse into many continuing cultural traditions. The ‘Ksan Historical Village features both a historical and present day overview of the ‘Ksan culture including a museum, a replicate of an ancient village, totem poles and a restaurant serving traditional Gitxsan dishes.

One of the best ways to explore the region is to drive, or take the Skeena train from Prince George to Jasper. You can also reach Prince George by plane from Vancouver or by ferry from the northern tip of Vancouver Island.
