This charming province sits right on the eastern seaboard of Canada, a 4,700 mile long coastal region of incredible beauty. Come to walk on the ocean floor where the world highest tides rise and fall on the Bay of Fundy. Catch your breath as a whale breaches near your boat, kayak the scenic coastline of the south shore of Nova Scotia, hear distinctive music and enjoy the freshest seafood.
Halifax, the gateway to Atlantic Canada, sits around its beautiful harbour, the second biggest natural harbour in the world. The British first settled here in 1749, building the Citadel shaped fortress that overlooks the Pier 21 (Canada’s Immigration Museum) and the excellent Maritime Museum. Then head west along the south shore, stopping at historic towns like Lunenburg - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - before turning north to the Kejimkujik National Park, a great spot for canoeing. On the awesome Fundy shoreline, famous for its massive tidal range, you can enjoy ‘tidal bore rafting’ and explore the Annapolis Valley, renowned for its orchards and vineyards. The area is also popular with whales that migrate here each summer. The Northumberland shore is best known for its beaches and warm waters. Nearby at Pictou is the landing place of the first wave of Scottish immigrants while further east is the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton island, one of the World most scenic drives and the hub of Celtic culture. Most visitors stop at Fortress Louisbourg to the south of the peninsula, built by the French to guard the doorway to the New World.
