Jasper

Jasper, with its peaceful, small town atmosphere, is located deep in the Alberta Rockies with mountain peaks in every direction. It’s the starting point for one of the most scenically spectacular drives in the world, the Icefields Parkway, which links Jasper with Lake Louise and Banff, with the iconic Columbia Icefield, the Athabasca and Sunwapta Falls along the way (we can arrange either a self drive itinerary or an escorted day tour).

The surrounding landscapes are the habitat for ountain sheep and goats, bears, wolves and elk which can often be seen when simply driving down the road. To improve the chance of spotting a grizzly bear, adventure seekers can opt for a hiking tour or explore the surrounding wilderness on horseback. Anyone from toddlers to seniors can enjoy a gentle rafting tour on the Athabasca River which gives a unique perspective of Jasper National Park (prices from £36 per person).

During your stay we’d also recommend a tour of one of the most spectacular areas of Jasper National Park. You first visit the Patricia and Pyramid Lakes and take a stroll over a rustic footbridge to Pyramid Lake Island. From there you’ll travel through the Maligne Valley in search of osprey, eagles, big horn sheep, mountain goats, moose, elk, deer and bears and stop at Maligne Canyon where 10,000 years of erosion have created a 165-foot deep gorge with the Maligne River thundering through the canyon in a series of waterfalls. From the canyon you’ll continue to Medicine Lake and on to the spectacular Maligne Lake (from £80 per person).

Mount Edith Cavell Walk is a 90 min hike around the base of the mountain which is considered by some to be Jasper’s most scenic. Alternatively, the ‘Path of the Glacier’ trail follows glacial moraines and descends to a picturesque emerald lake where ice may be seen tumbling from the face of the Angel Glacier (from £51 per person).
