The Chilcotin Mountains mountains are BC’s Wild West and are home to some of Canada’s largest ranches and resorts which offer everything from horse riding and hiking to award winning spas and gourmet food. Each summer the Williams Lake Stampede, complete with bull riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronco riding and barrel racing, is one of the area’s highlights.
Wells Gray Provincial Park encompasses over 5000 square kilometres of wilderness in south-eastern British Columbia. The north of the Park is the wild, untravelled country of the Cariboo mountains, with craggy peaks, ice-fields and hidden valleys. The mountains in the south of the Park put on wildflower displays each summer that are among the best in Canada. The broad volcanic plateau in the centre of the Park is carved with spectacular canyons and waterfalls.
Northern BC is an untouched wilderness that covers nearly half the province north of Prince George. Except for the plains and foothills of the Peace River region in the northeast corner, the region is impressively mountainous and teeming with wildlife. From the mystical, storm-swept Queen Charlotte Islands to the Rocky Mountain foothills, this is a land where man's biggest accomplishments seem so trivial compared with those of nature. Much of the region is preserved and protected by a system of provincial parks.
