If you have been enjoying BBC 2’s current three part series on the Great Barrier Reef, with the final episode being screened on Sunday (Jan 15th), we thought you might like to discover various ways that you could experience this wonder of the world first hand.
Bridge & Wickers has a number of different options for exploring the Reef, the largest living structure on the planet which stretches 2000 kms off the eastern seaboard of Australia.
Lizard Island, featured in the second programme, is one of the most popular of all the island resorts. It’s included, for example, in B&W’s 'Golden Triangle' itinerary along with the iconic Sydney Harbour and Uluru (Ayers Rock). From Lizard you can swim straight off the beach and explore the underwater wonderland for yourself, or perhaps take a boat tip to the outer reef where you can dive the famous cod hole.
The tropical Daintree Rainforest is also featured and is the only place in the world where two UNESCO World Heritage Listed sites sit side by side.
Alternative, and more affordable, options include the Low Isles, accessible by boat from Port Douglas, the islands of the Whitsundays, Green Island, accessible on a day trip from Cairns, or the resort islands of Heron and Wilson where you can also see the famous Noddy tern bird population and, at certain times of the year, turtles laying their eggs on the beach.
Bridge & Wickers can also arrange a number of Barrier Reef cruises. Just call 020 74836555 or e mail one of our specialist consultants who can tailor make a holiday to suit your particular interests.
