Don’t think of Canada as a destination that closes its doors in winter to anyone who can’t ski. There’s an amazing spread of events and activities and we can offer some very attractive deals on both airfares and accommodation. Among these winter wonders are:
The Northern Lights will be will be at their very blazing best this winter according to the NASA space agency, with peak performances most likely during the March equinox. We particularly recommend viewing them in the Yukon where you’ll be far from artificial lights.
Both Toronto, easily combined with Niagara Falls which stages a Winter Lights festival until the end of January, and the French flavoured Montreal offer shorter flying times than any US city. In Ottawa you can skate on the Rideau Canal, the world’s largest ice rink (125 miles!).
Quebec celebrates with a huge Winter Carnival (January 27th until February 12th) hosted by Bonhomme the snowman who overseas cultural and sporting events. You can get into the seasonal spirit by staying at the Ice Hotel, complete with ice furniture, an ice bar, a chapel and even a night club.
Each February New Brunswick hosts the ‘World Pond Hockey Championship’ where 40 teams compete, including two from the UK, in the town of Plaster Rock from February 9th to the 12th.
Face up to winter by storm watching. It’s a big draw in Tofino on Vancouver Island during the winter months, although there's obviously no guarantee when the waves will come crashing home. We can arrange a one week trip that includes two nights in Vancouver and 5 staying at the Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino from £1695 including ferries and 5 days’ car hire but not flights.
At the lakeside Hotel Sacacomie at Saint-Alexis-des-Monts, in the heart of the forest bordering Quebec's Mastigouche wildlife reserve, you can enjoy a softer range of winter sports than classic downhill skiing, with toboganning, snowshoeing and cross country skiing along backcountry trails all on the menu.
Even in Whistler, host of the 2010 Winter Olympics, it's not all one big ski party. On our four day package you can enjoy a magical sleigh ride under the stars, a snowmobile tour along the hidden valley between the resort and Blackcomb Mountains, husky dog sledding and snowshoeing through the trees on the slopes of Whistler Mountain.
