Western Australia is Australia’s largest and most extraordinary state, where 12,500kms of pristine white beaches contrast with the deep red of ancient rock formations. Perth is the main gateway and is four hours closer to the UK than Sydney, making it an ideal first or last stop and a great start to a self drive or fly drive itinerary to the South West or Coral Coast Region on the state.

Perth itself is a vibrant city located on the Swan River with a boat trip being a popular excursion. The historic port town Fremantle buzzes with coffee shops, markets and the brand new Maritime Museum. Just out to sea are Rottnest’s idyllic bays and unspoiled beaches. Southwards, Mandurah and Rockingham have a relaxed pace and plenty of marine life including a friendly community of dolphins. To the east, the Perth Hills and the Swan and Avon Valleys are home to absorbing history and superb wines.

The South West is also where you’ll find award winning wines in the Margaret River. Aside from wineries, the region has spectacular white beaches, tall timbers, pounding surf and stunning national parks. You’ll travel through rolling pastures and charming inland towns to the magnificent forest country, where you can walk a trail, climb a tree, or stroll 40 metres up on the Tree Top Walk.

North of Perth the Coral Coast is stretches from Cervantes up to Exmouth. Here you can swim with the world’s largest fish – the whaleshark - snorkel from the beach to the stunning Ningaloo Reef, meet the dolphins of Monkey Mia and take in the Pinnacles, a West Australian natural icon. There are also the sealions of Leeman, the gorges of Kalbarri, blow holes of Carnarvon, and the colourful wildflowers that annually carpet much of the region.
