On your three night journey from Sydney and the spectacular Blue Mountains or Adelaide to the treeless plains of the Nullarbor desert, where the train travels the world's longest straight stretch of railway track (478 kilometres), you’ll see unique landscapes unfold and spot a fascinating array of wildlife from the comfort of the lounge or your cabin (in particular, keep an eye out for the magnificent Australian wedge tailed eagle, the symbol of this great train. Its massive wingspan of up to two metres will make it easy to spot in a clear desert sky). Get up close and see some of Australia’s most famous outback towns on optional off-train tours at the old ‘Silver City’ of Broken Hill, Kalgoorie, still Australia’s gold capital, and the once thriving railway settlement of Cook, now with just a handful of residents, plus city tours in Perth or Adelaide.
