Visitors to Phuket will notice signs of Sino-Portugese influence in some buildings, especially in Phuket Town where some old buildings have been renovated to preserve the style and this is creating a new image for the old town.
There are many islands close to Phuket, such as Surin and Similan Islands, Koh Racha, Koh Yao and Phi Phi where some of the world’s best diving and snorkeling is to be found. Dive operations are plentiful on Phuket offering daily dives or multi day live-aboard packages further afield.
Phuket has a major International Airport, excellent infrastructure, shopping centres, excellent nightlife, marina, movie cinema and a wide choice of recreation activities. Khao Sok National Park and Ratchaprarop Lake are famous for nature and adventure just two hours drive from Phuket. The premium time to visit Phuket is between November and April when the weather is best and the sea calm. However, many smart travellers visit during the rainy season to take advantage of surprisingly plentiful sunshine, smaller crowds and low hotel rates.
