From the Serengeti plains in the north of the country to remote Ruaha in the south and the Mahale Mountains in the west, a safari in Tanzania is unsurpassed. Over a quarter of this vast and beautiful country is protected in parks and national reserves that together conserve about 20% of all of the large mammals in Africa.
In addition to the superlative game viewing, Tanzania is endowed with gorgeous tropical beaches, exotic island archipelagos, the world's second-largest freshwater lake and the snow-capped peaks of Africa's highest mountain.

Serengeti
The vast Serengeti is renowned for its predators and is home to an incredible number of both resident and migratory animals.
Ngorongoro Crater
Created by the collapse of a giant volcano,Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa’s most impressive geological features. It is the largest intact dry volcanic caldera on earth, with a 16-18km wide, mainly flat bottom and towering forested walls. Within this magnificent natural arena, comprising grassland, forest, swamp and a shallow lake, is an impressive concentration of wildlife: large herds of wildebeest and zebra; herds of Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelle, tsessebe and buffalo; as well as eland, bushbuck and the occasional old tusker.
Tarangire National Park
The rolling landscape and open woodlands of Tarangire National Park provide a wonderful dry season safari, with huge herds of animals drawn to the permanent waters of the Tarangire River and diverse birdlife.
Selous
South of Dar, Selous Game Reserve encompasses 45,000sq.km of grassy plains and mountains, open woodland and riverine forest, lakes and hot springs, with elephant, giraffe, antelope and Africa’s largest buffalo population. Numerous lion inhabit this wilderness, which is also a stronghold of the African wild dog. A boat trip on the Rufiji River is a special feature of a safari in the Selous. Several of the camps also organise fly-camping.
Few visitors make it as far west as remote Ruaha, where there is a great diversity of wildlife and predators.
Western Tanzania
Western Tanzania is incredibly remote region and therefore expensive to reach, so people lucky or determined enough to visit encounter few other tourists.
The star wildlife attractions of the region are Mahale Mountains, Gombe Stream and Katavi national parks.
