Elephant Bedroom Camp, Samburu, Kenya

Description

Elephant Bedroom Camp is a small tented camp in Samburu National Reserve. It stands by the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, amidst doum palms and indigenous trees. After the floods of March 2010, the camp has been rebuilt to an even higher standard; and has retained the excellent guides and friendly staff who have made Elephant Bedroom a favourite with our clients.

Rooms
The camp has 12 spacious tents – the main “room” is 50m2 - set on raised wooden decks. Four have king-size beds; the others have twin queen-size beds. Tents are attractively furnished, with floor-length curtains, rustic sofa, dressing table, bedside and coffee tables and striking standing lamps. Each has spacious private facilities with double basins, herbal toiletries, electricity and a deck, with plunge pool, overlooking the river – which is a magnet for the wildlife.

Facilities
The tented, open-front lounge faces the river and provides a choice of comfortable sofas and armchairs. You can also watch the river from the dining area, the hammocks hung between the trees or the seating on the riverbank. Elephant Camp has a well-stocked bar.

Meals
Breakfast and the three-course lunch are generally taken outdoors. Dinner is a four-course, candlelit affair and may be served in the open-front dining area or under the bright skies. Our clients praise both the food and the service here.

Activities

Elephant Bedroom is a luxury safari camp and the activities focus on the life of Samburu National Reserve. Game drives are in open-side 4WD safari vehicles and the guiding is of a high standard. Your morning game drive may end with an amazing bush breakfast, and the evening game drive will pause for sundowners as the sun sets over the rugged landscape. You can get a closer, more direct experience of the bush on a guided bush walk.If you are interested in Samburu culture, the camp offers cultural visits and you will be mesmerised by the Samburu morans. A particular feature of Elephant Bedroom is the lectures on Samburu culture by the resident naturalist.
