Africa is a continent of the most extraordinary diversity. Even within the eleven mainland African countries in which we specialise, the landscapes range from cloud forests through dramatic gorges to apparently infinite savannahs. You will find miles of pristine, reef-protected sandy beach and jewel-like tropical islands.

‘Africa’ conjures up images of vast herds of antelope grazing on the plains, watched by the big cats and hyenas that hunt them; of elephant families bathing in one of the continent’s great rivers; of endangered species like the Mountain gorilla and many of Madagascar’s reptiles and lemurs. There is nothing to compare with an African safari, and many people get bitten by the safari bug; but Africa draws people back time and again because you can pack an incomparable variety of singular experiences into an African holiday.

The range of vibrant, traditional cultures is dazzling. From the Maasai pastoralists of East Africa to the unique blend of influences apparent on the Swahili coast, from the Merina of highland Madagascar, the inventive Thonga people of South Africa’s Maputaland coast and the resourceful San people of Botswana’s Kalahari; the heroic Zulu, who clashed with European settlers in the 19th century, and the Himba people of Namibia – we can arrange authentic, non-touristy encounters.

Cape Town has a spectacular setting, beaches and mountains, food and wine, history and a contemporary vibe and Johannesburg has become a rewarding stopover. Nairobi has some of Africa’s most creative jewellers and craftspeople, good restaurants, conservation centres and a rewarding national park, while Swakopmund offers a wealth of outdoor activities and access to Namibia’s dramatic Atlantic coast.

Whether you like owner-run guesthouses or 5-star hotels, rustic lodges or luxury camps, we will be glad to help you find the perfect places where you can enjoy distinctive African experiences and genuine hospitality.
